The 2023 Outsideleft Short Story Competition will open for entries on April 1st.

Every week OUTSIDELEFT tells the stories of art and culture that mean something to our writers. Now we are encouraging you to write something for us!

Theme

The theme of the Outsideleft's 2022 Short Story Competition is 'Concrete'.

Concrete is so much more than the material from which the world's cities, roads and flyovers are constructed from. 'Concrete' is the unmoving, hard to get round. Solid. Ideas can be concrete. Beliefs can be concrete. Unassailable truth is 'concrete'. Your concrete might not be our concrete.

  • The winner will receive £100 and a trophy created by renowned artist Chantal Pitts.
  • There will be two runners up who will receive trophies created by Chantal.
  • By entering you give OL permission to publish the winning stories but you will retain copyright.
