"I thought this a unique take on it in terms of the relationship one might have with a landmark such as this and which others might walk past every day. It was a delicately delivered story that flowed beautifully... It's evocative and clever writing." - Lisa Blower

The 2023 Outsideleft Short Story Competition will open for entries on April 1st.
Every week OUTSIDELEFT tells the stories of art and culture that mean something to our writers. Now we are encouraging you to write something for us!
The theme of the Outsideleft's 2022 Short Story Competition is 'Concrete'.
Concrete is so much more than the material from which the world's cities, roads and flyovers are constructed from. 'Concrete' is the unmoving, hard to get round. Solid. Ideas can be concrete. Beliefs can be concrete. Unassailable truth is 'concrete'. Your concrete might not be our concrete.
The competition is open now
All entries must be received by the end of May 31st, 2022.
Winners will be announced in Outsideleft on September 1st, 2022.
