QUE VIVE LE PASTEL !
Micheline Selbonne est une artiste portraitiste autodidacte basée sur l’ile de la Guadeloupe dans la caraïbe. Elle pratique le pastel depuis plus d’une dizaine d’années. La femme noire est l’une de ses representations les plus travaillées. Elle adore jouer avec les nuances de peau, les expressions faciales. Micheline est une passionnée du pastel avec une originalité: elle utilise ses doigts pour travailler.
CHRISTIAN PRESENT: Jusqu’où aimerais tu que ta passion pour le pastel t’emporte, t’emmène?
MIcheline Selbonne: Le pastel qui fut tout d’abord pour moi un loisir est devenu avec les années de pratique une passion.
Que dire ? Quand je dessine, je suis complètement absorbée par mon travail, je m’imprègne du visage « ma particularité » que je dessine. Je ressens une très forte émotion à la fin de chaque œuvre. Quelque chose d’inexplicable. Une joie intense et profonde après le travail accompli.
CP: A quand le franchissement de cette ligne vers la Professionnalisation ?
MS: Je crois que pour franchir ce cap il faut des années de pratique, une maturité.
Avec le temps, la ténacité, et surtout la pratique régulière j’y arriverai.
Et j’y compte bien !
CP: La femme au Saxophone… Qu’elle a été ta démarche pour ce choix ?
MS: Comme vous le savez tous les instruments à vents sont difficiles à jouer. Une femme jouant du saxophone est d’une rareté, il faut avoir du souffle et surtout la technique de la pratique.
C’est beau de voir une gente féminine jouer d’un instrument qui est réservé aux Hommes. Une exclusivité ! Voilà la raison qui m’a poussé à réaliser ce tableau.
CP: Parle-nous de la journée de l’artiste Pastel que tu es ?
MS: Journée particulière qui n’est consacrée qu’à mon art. Je m’y attèle jusqu’au soir. Afin de terminer le travail entamé, car j’aime voir la réalisation complète d’une œuvre commencée le matin, afin de l’apprécier et de le partager.
CP: Quel est cet endroit du monde où tu aimerais exposer ton amour pour le Pastel ?
MS: J’aimerais bien me faire connaître dans la Caraïbe, les îles anglophones. Mais mon plus cher désir ce serait d’exposer dans une galerie New yorkaise ! Je crois qu’il y a un public Cosmopolite. Quel bonheur pour moi !!!
CP: Quel conseil as-tu à donner à celui qui débute dans la peinture et surtout avec la technique du Pastel ?
MS: Déjà d’aimer cette technique, avoir la patience, et surtout le sens de l’observation.
Ces trois choses sont « essentielles » pour obtenir de bons résultats.

Micheline Selbonne is a portraitist artist based on the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe. She has been a pastellist for over ten years. Mainly black women are represented in her artwork. She enjoys building up skin tones and facial expressions. Micheline is passionate with pastel and original by the way she goes around it. She uses her fingers to create her pieces!
Christian Present/OL: How far would you like your passion for pastel to take you?
MS: Pastel was at first a hobby that became over years of practice a passion. What to say? When I draw, I am completely absorbed by my work. Portrait painting is my speciality. I become very emotional at the end of each work. Something inexplicable. An intense and deep feeling.
OL: When will you cross the line towards Professionalisation?
MS: I believe that making that transition requires years of practice and maturity. With Time, tenacity, and especially with regular practice I will get there. I’m counting on it!
OL: Regarding your pastel named “The woman with the Saxophone”... What was your approach
MS: As you all know, reed instruments are hard to play. A woman playing the saxophone is an exception, you must know how to breath and also know hoot apply the technics.
It's nice to see a woman playing an instrument that is predominantly for men. An exclusivity ! This is the reason that inspired in the realisation of this work.
OL: Tell us a little about your day as an artist?
MS: I plan some days in the week to work on my art so, when ai start I work until the evening. I like to start and complete a work of art within the day in order to appreciate it and share it with others
OL: Where in the world you would like to exhibit your love for Pastels?
MS: I would like to make myself known in the Caribbean, the English-speaking islands. However my dearest desire would be to exhibit in a Gallery in New York, where I think there is an eclectic audience. What a joy that would be.
OL: What advice would you give to a young artist who just started in the field and especially what would you tell him about the technic that you use (pastel)?
MS: To be patient and more over to have a sens of observation. These are the most important to get good results.
