November Spawned a Dinosaur

Elastic Day is the new LP and single from Dinosaur Jr's J Mascis

The new record offers the mellower less full featured Dino sound...

As you know if I could sing I'd want mainly my voice to come out like Macy Gray, but some days, if it could sound as rocknroll fabulous as J. Mascis on everything since Dinosaur Jr's seminal Freak Scene then maybe I wouldn't have to pour my words into my music and instead could sing out loud.

In many ways, Dinosaur Jr are the last great, greatest rocknroll band. The last great rocknroll band that didn't roll over into barely misshapen metal. They started in the Reagan era on Homestead, then Long Beach's SST way back when. And probably a world tour of credible indie labels since. Those details matter. Anyway.

On November 9th, J Mascis releases a new solo record, Elastic Days (SubPop). Over the years there have been a number of perhaps mellower solo records from J Mascis, not entirely suited to the full feature Dino sound. The new record has a new mellower single, Elastic Days, and the video is kinda fun, featuring superstar drag diva Dina Martina who counts John Waters among her fans and there's possibly no better endorsement for a dragster... J had this to say of the video, “I’ve been a big Dina Martina fan for a long time. I’ve seen her perform many times over the years. I’m glad that I got her to do this video before she becomes an untouchable superstar. I am amazed at how the video came out, I’m so psyched.”

Enjoy it here. Don't stop.

HELP OUTSIDELEFT

Outsideleft exists on a precarious no budget budget. We are interested in hearing from deep and deeper pocket types willing to underwrite our cultural vulture activity. We're not so interested in plastering your product all over our stories, but something more subtle and dignified for all parties concerned. Contact us and let's talk. [HELP OUTSIDELEFT]

WRITE FOR OUTSIDELEFT

If Outsideleft had arms they would always be wide open and welcoming to new writers and new ideas. If you've got something to say, something a small dank corner of the world needs to know about, a poem to publish, a book review, a short story, if you love music or the arts or anything else, write something about it and send it along. Of course we don't have anything as conformist as a budget here. But we'd love to see what you can do. Write for Outsideleft, do. [SUBMISSIONS FORM HERE]
