John Robinson - My Reply To You

My Response To You

The national day of poetry:
a day, no less, 24 hours
as if the naming of those hours
frees poets to demand attention
from the public, whose vapid affection
extends no further than bakers, sportsmen,
celebrities above their station,
and rarely to any artistic intention.
Do I know poets?, asks Mr. Lamont,
but what is a poet, where sits that font
of intelligence, wit and linguistic contortion?
Is it in anyone who chooses to write
or a title conferred by the gatekeepers' sight?

(C) John Robinson

Something you should know:
John Robinson was born in 1973 in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, a regrettable incident which possibly triggered the UK's entry into the European Union. He attended University in Canterbury, studying Radio, Film and Television with Mathematics, because he is insane, and then completed a vocational certificate in Journalism in Sheffield College. The country then spat him out to spend three years teaching English in Poland, till 2000, possibly triggering their membership of the European Union.  John's Momus Book (published by Zero Books) will be available at the end of October.

HELP OUTSIDELEFT

Outsideleft exists on a precarious no budget budget. We are interested in hearing from deep and deeper pocket types willing to underwrite our cultural vulture activity. We're not so interested in plastering your product all over our stories, but something more subtle and dignified for all parties concerned. Contact us and let's talk. [HELP OUTSIDELEFT]

WRITE FOR OUTSIDELEFT

If Outsideleft had arms they would always be wide open and welcoming to new writers and new ideas. If you've got something to say, something a small dank corner of the world needs to know about, a poem to publish, a book review, a short story, if you love music or the arts or anything else, write something about it and send it along. Of course we don't have anything as conformist as a budget here. But we'd love to see what you can do. Write for Outsideleft, do. [SUBMISSIONS FORM HERE]
