Seeing us through to the end of the year we’ve reached out to a number of our favourite artists and cultural creatives to join us in celebrating good things. A bunch of five things that make their world go around, inspire them or just need celebrating for what they are. There’s no theme here. It’s no kind of “best of year” round-up. These are just five things of the many things identified as making the world a better place to be. We’re all about positivity. Almost all of the time. We promise…
Jacqui and Pauline AKA JnP AKA The Leith Congregational Choir AKA the Soho sisters look forward to winter every year. It’s the time of their birthdays, of cold outside but extra heat indoors, snuggling up in bed and, for Jacqui especially, getting the Christmas mood as early as possible. The latter involves an extensive xmas playlist on loop and at least one evening of playing seemingly endless 7 inch singles with a happy holidays theme.
Of course, beds and Christmas go together well and at this time of year provide inspiration for their respective bunch of fives.
Jacqui’s 5 fave xmas tunes are here, Pauline's secrets to sleeping well are here⇒.
Joe Rose - Plain Song
Joe Rose makes me feel Christmassy which means it almost makes me want to cry… like a baby
The Drifters - White ChristmasIt's the voice I wish my dad had.
The Cinematic Orchestra - All That You GiveChristmas is all about getting together with all the people you love and this is about remembering the people you lost. This song is about loss and grief, singing from the depths of her despair. Happy xmas!
Cocknbull Kid - Amazing Dave
A proper little secret from 12 years ago. It’s clearly a Christmas song but it’s a Hackney Christmas. Bloody brilliant.
The Blue Nile - Tinseltown in the RainIt used to be a secret, but now I’m forced to share it and everyone knows about the album this is from, which is how it should be.
