Seeing us through to the end of the year we’ve reached out to a number of our favourite artists and cultural creatives to join us in celebrating good things. A bunch of five things that make their world go around, inspire them or just need celebrating for what they are. There’s no theme here. It’s no kind of "best of year" round-up. These are just five things of the many things identified as making the world a better place to be. We’re all about positivity. Almost all of the time. We promise...
Based in Michigan, Monroe Moon meld piano, vocals and dreamscape guitars into emotional indie melting pop that swirls and asks questions of all touches. Heather from the US, and Theo from the UK find their buoyancy somewhere mid-Atlantic. Calling upon an array of trusted friends to expand their sound. Monroe Moon's recordings land gently in the genre space also occupied by the likes of Lana Del Ray, Justin Vernon and Aaron Dessner... Here's a Five that takes Heather and Theo there.
A.) Organic Tobacco - Specifically: American Spirit Cigarettes - Orange Pack. I don't feel sickly the next day like with regular chemical-laden cigarettes and organic tobacco really does have some health benefits. Look it up! **Surgeon General’s Warning: SMOKING KILLS
B.) Don Julio 1942, it is like sipping on caramel butter popcorn. And I don't know if this knocks it out of the gluttony category for me but by the time I finish a glass of 1942, I would have had 4 gin & tonics.
C.) Small Batch Craft Cannabis - to be mixed with that organic tobacco I mentioned above. Theo rolls the best spliffs.
D.) Raw Milk - We drink 4 gallons a week! Getting raw milk from a local dairy has improved our family’s health in impressive ways and it has also made us make some lifestyle changes that we really enjoy. We make our own butter, yogurt, simple cheeses, and ice cream every week.
E.) Magnesium - Cannot get enough. Magnesium Slut right here. Give me all of it. I rub magnesium oil all over my body, soak in magnesium baths, and I consume every magnesium variation in supplement form. *chef’s kiss
A.) Skipping Breakfast - I like to extend my fast into the day by skipping breakfast. I am naturally not hungry in the morning so this is easy and I like to pretend this helps me maintain my personal ideal weight
B.) Over Dressing for the Occasion - I’m sorry but I’m going to wear heels and fur to your board game party in the basement
C.) Gua Sha - I love myself so much that I give myself daily face massages in the mirror. I 100% recommend it.
D.) Mastic Chewing Gum - My jawline could cut your heart out
E.) Eyelash Extensions - They make me feel pretty so I don't feel like I need to wear make-up on a daily basis AND I get to chat and laugh with a friend for an hour every two weeks. Win. Win.
A.) Sleeping In - Horizontal
B.) Meditating - Horizontal
C.) Sunbathing - Horizontal
D.) Texting Theo from the Bed when he is home. This is mostly me just requesting warm, hydrating drinks or when I need a cuddle - also done Horizontal
E.) Leaving the Dishes for the morning - Because I would rather be horizontal.
4.) Greed
A.) Setting Boundaries, ok, ok, this is not greedy, but it sure can feel like it.
B.) The Last pour from the Coffee Carafe. Why was I giving this up before anyway?!?!
C.) Long Hot Baths, with the door locked and headphones on. Its good to be greedy with your “Me” time.
D.) Not Sharing My Spliff, sorry, but not to worry Theo knows me so well he has another one for the pass around.
E.) Never telling anyone where I find morel mushrooms every spring
5.) Lust
A.) Dirty Dancing - especially with a beautiful woman . . .
B.) Public Displays of Affection - Let’s Make Out! Who cares who is watching?!
C.) People Watching At The Gym - I mean, yeah, come on.
D.) Sexting - I should probably request a printout of my messages to Theo and publish a Romance novel
E.) Footsie Under The Dinner Table/ Snogging in the movie theater - This is kind of like PDA but sneaky and feels different, but different good.
