Wayne Dean-Richards has shared 18 poems for us to publish during 2023. The collection is called It's a Mad World, But Funny. Eventually there will be a free, downloadable PDF of all the poems and a planned A6 compendium too. (Links to all of the poems way down the page.)
road rage
he came right out:
forced into a space
where there was no space
cut me up a fucking treat!
I pointed and he nodded.
we pulled over
by where there used to be
a steel mill,
where now there were
weeds and broken glass.
he one of those
shaven-headed fuckers
the size of a brick shithouse,
all knuckles and tats.
what I lacked in size
I made up for in heart:
flung myself
at him, throwing hooks with both hands
chin tight against my chest.
but he kicked the
shit out of me:
broke a tooth
bloodied me good and proper
left me lying there and
drove off:
forcing his way into
another space where there
was no fucking space.
I struggled to my feet,
got back to my car and
drove for ten minutes
until another fucker cut me up.
I could’ve let it go.
but if you swallow your rage
it tastes like ash -
a taste I’m not keen on
even with a dash of mayo.
I pointed,
he nodded,
we pulled onto a pub car park.
“wanker!” he yelled.
“prick!” I snapped
and we went at it.
