OUTSIDELEFT'S NIGHT OUT in Cork's Lounge, Bearwood.
with DJ's WOODENHAND and PREHISTORIC MAN on the decks!
Friday, May 3rd at 8pm

THE OUTSIDELEFT NIGHT OUT populates the first Friday of each month at Corks lounge in Bearwood, on your calendar and in your hearts, in perpetuity. Hope!

The next OUTSIDELEFT Night Out, on Friday, May 3rd features the melodic and evocative guitar stylings of the compelling Black Country bluegrass musician, Lu Warm. Drawing influence from American Primitive guitar, Kora and Japanese ambient music, Lu Warm’s recently released LP ‘Gnome Standard’ (hear it on Bandcamp here) is marked by breathtakingly dexterous musical twists and turns, ably invoking the darkness and light, the joy and sorrows - historical and new, and the mystery of our Black Country region. On an acoustic guitar.

The Lu Warm OUTSIDELEFT Night Out is truly a don’t miss.

No Outsideleft Night Out would be complete without DJ Woodenhand’s call to get up and dance. Not literally, but irresistibly. We’ve been doing this for the best part of a year and Woodenhand’s carefully curated selection of vintage soul, funk, jazz, ska, r’n’b and jump blues, should have any self-respecting Night-Outer’s joints aching come Saturday morning. You’ll know it was worth it.

Our Walk-In music DJ slot in May will be occupied by the incomparable Prehistoric Man. If music to you means reggae, dub, abstract and unreconstructed sounds, then this music insists that you arrive early to hear this set. Don’t be alarmed, Walk-In is not to be regarded as a derogatory determiner. I borrowed that description from Talking Heads’ David Byrne writing about a set he put together early doors for a Khruangbin show in New York.

Outsideleft’s Walk-In music is soooo important too. Music I’ve never thought about hearing in this setting. I love this part of the evening the most; the people watching, as old friends meander in, sometimes unexpectedly given pause by Cork’s retro 70s decor, then recognising old friends they haven’t seen in a while and lighting up, opening up. It’s the most beautiful thing. It’s an important role for our early evening platter player as it sets the table and tone and contrasts delightfully with our often more gentle live music set.

Great entertainment, in the fabulous, unreconstructed surroundings of Cork’s lounge, the Outsideleft Night Out is a community driven event and you guys are the drivers not the passengers. We’re looking forward to seeing you there. It’s going to be a great Night Out!

HELP OUTSIDELEFT

Outsideleft exists on a precarious no budget budget. We are interested in hearing from deep and deeper pocket types willing to underwrite our cultural vulture activity. We're not so interested in plastering your product all over our stories, but something more subtle and dignified for all parties concerned. Contact us and let's talk. [HELP OUTSIDELEFT]

WRITE FOR OUTSIDELEFT

If Outsideleft had arms they would always be wide open and welcoming to new writers and new ideas. If you've got something to say, something a small dank corner of the world needs to know about, a poem to publish, a book review, a short story, if you love music or the arts or anything else, write something about it and send it along. Of course we don't have anything as conformist as a budget here. But we'd love to see what you can do. Write for Outsideleft, do. [SUBMISSIONS FORM HERE]
