What can you say about an artist who has been around since the early 60s, was a backing singer for Ike and Tine Turner, began a solo career at the prompting of Mick Jagger, recorded with Ron Wood, Keith Richards, The Small Faces, Rod Stewart, Keith Emerson, Georgia Fame, Steel Pulse, Paul Weller, Roger Waters, KLF, Primal Scream, and otherwise toured with, recorded with or was produced by John Paul Jones, Barry Gibb, Eric Clapton and … well look them up for yourself.
You could say that her name is P.P Arnold and at 78 years young she's still doing it.
It's now five years since she recorded and toured her "comeback" studio album "The New Adventures of… P.P. Arnold" - her first since the 1970s. And she has just put out an 18 track double LP of her 2019 date in Liverpool, cunningly entitled "Live in Liverpool".
The voice may a little deeper than in her 60s heyday but is still very much on point, with a backing band that befits her status as living legend. And yes, in addition to tracks from the LP she was promoting, the hits are in there including a blistering encore of "The First Cut is The Deepest".
Not content with releasing a live recording she's also out on the road again, playing it live. Although oddly this time not in Liverpool.
