One of a One Off
That boy. He’s a one off. He’s the original punk. Kevin had famously chucked in the towel with Adam and the Ants at the Royal Variety Show, threw his bass on the ground and stalked off. (Actually, revisiting this very weird performance, Mooney pretty much upstages a very fluffy haired Adam and takes his bows, including to whichever horse-faced royalty was up in the box at the end.He knew where he was in the artistic order and he didn’t want to be a product. If you look at all the work he has done, with Wide Boy Awake, The Lavender Pill Mob, partner to Lesley Winer the fashion model (and performer) - for me he stands out as a true original. Never once compromising his artistic integrity. That outfit he was wearing (Vivien Westwood) he sold to the V&A Museum to raise money. He gets a slightly bad press in Vivien’s autobiography…
