Baker's Xmas Dozen #7:
MAXI JAZZ
Minimalistic
I went to his flat in brixton. Probably the sparsest accommodation I’ve ever seen. He had his decks and his records and somewhere to sit. He had next to nothing. There was a piece of waste land in Paddington down a ramp where taxis used to drive. There was a derelict bus garage where Mutoid Waste Company used to do their parties. Right n the corner of this wasteland was this little house where I filmed him. Contained and decaying. He was a lovely bloke. I never really forget where I’ve taken a shot and pretty much the circumstances of it. There were certain places I knew worked. Down by the Design Museum at Shad Thames and this place. A proper wasteland in the middle of London. I like those decaying textures. I went to do some shots of John Foxx a little while ago and there’s a little road that runs round the back of the BBC there. Where I knew there would be something that would work as backgrounds, atmosphere that’s not distracting.
