Adobe Punk : a punk rehearsal in real-time

Margo Albert Theatre

Plaza de la Raza,  Los Angeles, CA

March 28th - April 13th 2025

About...Productions is presenting a new iteration of the play Adobe Punk, co-written/directed by mother-son team, Theresa Chavez and Gabriel Garza. Performed in real-time with original music, we find a trio of young musicians squatting in one of L.A.’s oldest adobe homes in early 1980s Bell Gardens. Inspired by the bands XBags, and the Minutemen, the group rehearses in preparation for their debut show. Finding respite and repulsion amongst one another, a fire is starting within the group. Will they be able to harness the flame or will it burn them down? You experience the band in full rehearsal mode, creating new songs whilst debating 'what is punk’ within the confines of a historic LA adobe.  As you do!

"Being a part of Adobe Punk has been one of the most artistically satisfying projects of my life," says actor Isaac Cruz. "Watching the project grow and change has mirrored my own evolution." Fellow actor Sara Bunge adds "I’m beyond stoked to take on the role of Noreen in this iteration of Adobe Punk. Music as a vehicle for curiosity, change, and connection has always been an area through which I have found strength and meaning. I look forward to further exploring this aspect of my own life, the life of her character, and humanity as a whole during the journey of this show." Sounds like she is enjoying her role.

An accompanying photo exhibit by Theresa Kereakes, chronicling the L.A. punk scene, Punk in Place: Concerts and Casuals, is also on display in the lobby for the duration of the run. Those things are always fun and add to the whole experience.  If you are in LA, or close by, do check this out. It sounds like a great night out.

HELP OUTSIDELEFT

Outsideleft exists on a precarious no budget budget. We are interested in hearing from deep and deeper pocket types willing to underwrite our cultural vulture activity. We're not so interested in plastering your product all over our stories, but something more subtle and dignified for all parties concerned. Contact us and let's talk. [HELP OUTSIDELEFT]

WRITE FOR OUTSIDELEFT

If Outsideleft had arms they would always be wide open and welcoming to new writers and new ideas. If you've got something to say, something a small dank corner of the world needs to know about, a poem to publish, a book review, a short story, if you love music or the arts or anything else, write something about it and send it along. Of course we don't have anything as conformist as a budget here. But we'd love to see what you can do. Write for Outsideleft, do. [SUBMISSIONS FORM HERE]
