There’s a sense of deep yearning for connection in the midst of that solitude... it vividly paints a multitude of emotions and shifting motions like phases of the moon.

Stride into a celestial groove in Phoebe Rings’ blissful self-titled debut EP ‘Phoebe Rings’. Emerging from New Zealand, this dream-pop band whisks you away into an ethereal wonderland.

Opening with lush piano keys and fluttering strings, 'Cheshire' immediately enchanted me. The soft, ethereal vocals transport you into a dream-like world. The lyrics evoke the feeling of awe and wanderlust, getting lost in curiosity, journeying through deep introspection. 'January Blues' steadies you with its jazzy beats and melodies. The tender vocals create a sense of intimacy with the character’s thoughts, like you’re daydreaming with them. I loved it! The lyrics convey that the character is contemplating life, wanting to start anew but not knowing where to begin.  I really enjoyed the next song, 'Lazy Universe.  it contains so many wonderful layers which was so sweet to the ears.  Groovy spacy guitar, the lush, reverberated keys. The vibe of the song gave a sense of floating, spiralling in thoughts. The lyrics seemed to beckon a sense of yearning for connection and emotional fulfilment.

‘Spissky’ is my favourite track. The tender vocals, soothing keys, the melancholic tone ease you into a moonlit ballad. The lyrics are beautifully whimsical but also evoke a strong sense of mystery. There’s a sense of deep yearning for connection in the midst of that solitude. I really loved the crafty composition of this song; it vividly paints a multitude of emotions and shifting motions like phases of the moon. 'Ocean'’s lyrics beautifully capture the elusive nature of the ocean, conveying a sense longing for love, true connection. The masterful blend of ambient sounds and intricate melodies create an ethereal atmosphere, complementing the lyrics remarkably. 'Daisy' creates a sense of vibrancy with its very upbeat tempo, creating a springy atmosphere. The lyrics gave me a strong sense of carefreeness and embracing imagination. This song gave me the sense of awakening from a blissful dream, that euphoria lingering in the waking life.

WRITE FOR OUTSIDELEFT

If Outsideleft had arms they would always be wide open and welcoming to new writers and new ideas. If you've got something to say, something a small dank corner of the world needs to know about, a poem to publish, a book review, a short story, if you love music or the arts or anything else, write something about it and send it along. Of course we don't have anything as conformist as a budget here. But we'd love to see what you can do. Write for Outsideleft, do. [SUBMISSIONS FORM HERE]
