Liqueur
The Brickmakers.
Norwich, April 5th
There are a few Cure tribute bands, but I have only seen Liqueur, so I have little to compare the Norfolk based outfit with. I have already expressed my love for the idea of tribute bands in an earlier article for Outsideleft and one of the reasons I like them is they play in small venues. The Brickmakers (which includes B2 around the back) is a great old fashioned small venue for local bands , tribute bands and acts that come from a little further afield. The legendary Ed Tudor-Pole is playing there on the 24th April. Back to the gig. I squeezed in at the front to take a few pics and the band came on at 9:00pm and played for around 2 hours.
They did not disappoint and have such a large following that they had to move from B2 to the main brickmakers stage because the smaller room sold out. The singer Chris gave a shout out to
their favourite sound person who did a great job on the desk, but I think the
vocals could have been a little higher in the overall mix. They were not quite
as tight as when I last saw them, but this is point. You don’t go for
perfection, you go for atmosphere and the atmosphere was abundant. They
finished off with six greatest hits and their penultimate number was ‘10:15 On A
Saturday Night’, which has always been my favourite Cure track, so I left very
happy.
