OUTSIDELEFT Quiet Night Out has been organised together with our beloved Bear Bookshop in Bearwood. The evening will feature readings, poetry and conversation and subsonic music. A deep dive into the heart of Black Country poetry and fiction.
We'll be hearing poetry and prose from RM Francis; from his new widely acclaimed book of poetry, The Chain Coral Chorus and from his enthralling novel, The Wrenna.
There'll be a conversation between Rob (RM Francis) and fellow Black Country writer, the renowned Kerry Hadley-Pryce about what informs their work and the teeming creativity of the region. In truth, who knows what else they'll talk about. Kerry will read from her recent book from God's Country (Salt Press) - amazing, unique, insidiously nail biting unnerving!
Jay Lewis, steeped in poetry, music and film is a natural performer. His spoken word piece, The Kingfisher, is well worth seeking out on the Streamers. The Kingfisher chills me like early Dennis Cooper. Jay is a frequent contributor to Outsideleft, you can find his music criticism here.
If you follow OUTSIDELEFT at all, you'll know that we are currently working closely with Wayne Dean-Richards in intermittently publishing his oftentimes dark and sometimes deliriously funny, but often not, series of poems, It's a Mad World, But Funny. We're absolutely thrilled that he has agreed to come from Quinton to be such an incredible presence in opening the show. And it is a show.
Our great friend WOODENHAND will be on hand, to gently rejuvenate our psyche between the blowtorch-like blasts of our authors. WOODENHAND's subsonic introspective modal interludes, woven with guitar, beats and loops will soothe our return to the night.
Oh man, we couldn't be more excited, the Quiet Night Out could be our best thing yet.
